MICROBIOLOGY
The laboratory medicine division of Mayom Hospital includes the department of microbiology, which offers advanced laboratory diagnostic services for the clinical management of infectious diseases brought on by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites as well as guidance on infection prevention. The department's three primary divisions, Bacteriology, Mycology, and Serology, work together as a cohesive whole. A senior consultant clinical microbiologist oversees the department, which is backed by an accomplished senior registrar. Clinical microbiologists take an active part in monitoring and containing hospital-acquired infections and are available during business hours and after hours for diagnostic advice as well as consultations on antibiotic therapy for the management of infectious diseases.
The lab is staffed with skilled and committed microbiologists who specialize in analyzing clinical specimens for culture, isolation, and identification of pathogenic organisms as well as testing for antibiotic sensitivity. They also evaluate serological samples for infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases.
