Common Throat Problems
Our throat is the part of the body that is most affected by external conditions. Such as a change in weather, pollution, breathing in contaminated air, eating unhealthy food, etc. Due to this throat infection occurs. These infections are mainly of three types – bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
The main cause of Throat Infection is exposure to bacteria and viruses. In the throat, there are membranous tissues on both sides, which are called tonsils. When it gets infected by bacteria or viruses, there is swelling and pain. There are some common throat problems are as follows:
Bacterial Throat Infection
Bacterial throat infection is the most common and most often caused by bacteria such as streptococcal, staphylococcal. Viral throat infection is caused by the influenza virus and usually causes symptoms such as cold, pain, and sneezing.
Tonsillitis
There are tonsils on both sides of our throats. When they come in contact with any kind of bacteria or infection, they get swell and it causes a lot of pain in swallowing saliva along with edibles. Usually, their color is pink, but after infection, they turn red and white spots also appear on them.
Thyroiditis
It is caused by swelling of the thyroid gland. In the beginning, there is an excess production of thyroid hormone, and later there is a decrease in it. This causes hypothyroidism. Sometimes it is seen in women after pregnancy.
Laryngitis
Laryngitis is a condition of inflammation of the voice box from irritation or infection. Laryngitis is also called laryngeal inflammation. The acute form of laryngitis usually resolves on its own. although in the case of chronic laryngitis, treatment is targeted at the underlying condition, primarily smoking.
Epiglottis
Epiglottis may block the windpipe. Its symptoms are severe sore throat and noisy, difficult breathing. The swelling of the epiglottis starts to narrow the airway. It may block the airway and lead to difficulty breathing and death.
Most throat problems are minor and go away on their own. You should visit your ENT doctor or ENT Specialist in Gurugram if your sore throat lasts longer than a few days. ENT Specialists will determine what is causing your symptoms. The diagnosis is based on an examination of the throat by X-ray, blood test, CT scan, etc. Treatments are depending on the problem.
