Our voice is our identity. If you are into a profession like Singing, News Reading, Dubbing, Acting, or TVHost, then your voice will play an important role in your career. Even if you are not into these professions, you still don't want your voice to be bad. Some of us have a naturally good voice and some have a heavy voice. But most people's voice is naturally normal. Sometimes we feel some disorders or injuries in our vocal card due to various reasons. The vocal cord injuries can be minor to major and can affect your voice and speaking.

Some common voice disorders include:

What are the symptoms of vocal cord disorder?

  • Choking or suffocation
  • A high-pitched wheezing sound when you inhale is called stridor

Causes

The most common cause of vocal cord disorders is vocal abuse or misuse. The type of vocal cord disorder may have different causes. This includes extreme use of the voice in actions such as singing, talking, coughing, or yelling. Smoking and breathing irritants are also causing vocal abuse.

Diagnosis and treatment

To diagnose your problem your doctor will ask you detailed questions about your voice problems and examine you thoroughly. Depending on your diagnosis, your ENT Specialist will recommend one or more treatments:

  1. Rest, liquids (the vocal cords also need regular rest and fluids)
